I like to remove the block drain plugs on each side of the block when R&Ring coolant. Now I got a rounded off plug on the passenger side. What is the easiest way to grab the rounded off head to extract it? There isnt much room to get at it. Should replace the plugs with petcock valves.

rounded head

there are various brands of sockets made especially for grabbing rounded off bolt heads, any parts store should be able to help. if the plug is really tight and hard to remove i would heat the plug as hot as possible and then cool it with water, it will come right out.

If it doesn't come, leave it alone

If you have to put a bar on it you risk cracking the block.

Like allready said it will take a torch or leave it alone. The block can be flushed fairly good if you remove the lower rt water pump bolt and put a hose into the lower rad hose going to the pump untill it comes out clear.

i had this happen and had to wait till the motor...

came out to drill them out and retap the hole and that was nerve racking enough. a.) get the hole drilled straight and to the right diameter for a tapered pipe threads b.) retap properly so there isnt any leaks. i had one side that had the old threads come out when i was tapping it. was really worried it was gonna leak. everything did come out fine. but this was hard enough with the block upside down on the stand. in the car would be a nightmare and i wouldnt touch them. i installed a set of intresting plugs in place of the square headed ones. they are brass and have a sort of a thumbscrew petcock. machine shop recommended them and said theyve been using them for along time with great success. well see how they work out for me.
