my neighbor has a 02 camaro well built with a rear mounted turbo the thing is just plain fast. i think im getting the turbo bug. ive always been a all motor kinda guy but forced induction has always been something i might like to fool with. ive always liked the 8 71 blowers but they seem to use a lot of power so im told. lets see what opinions you all have im interested.

possible toys for this are. im kinda leaning toward the truck but who knows.

FWIW, I've been fooling with turbos....

November 7 2008, 9:48 PM

off-and-on, since the late '70s. I'm, at present, building an engine to go in my daily driver. It'll be twin turbo'd. And when I get it done, I'll be building a TT FE-powered car. So I guess you can see that I believe in turbos. Lots of good reading on the turboforum.com site. I recommend it.

122mm

November 8 2008, 12:12 AM

in Vegas, Turbonetics had a 122mm turbo in their booth, along with a Mustang ADRL 10.5 car with a "BB Ford" 460 type twin turbo engine.

A single 122mm oughta move you along smartly. Two of them should test your parts strength very well.

Turbo is the mack daddy of power adders....

November 8 2008, 12:14 PM

Turbo is the way to go to make big power. We made over 1200 hp with a "small" 94 MM turbo on a 331 Yates headed small block in a old Pro 5.0 car that I crew chiefed. That car was flat out brutal but compared to the technology today it now looks mild.
If you want to make big horsepower your going to have to really break open that piggy bank. It will require custom fabbed everything and large bills to buy the parts. As said EFI is the way to go but expect to shell out around $5000 for a good set up which will include ECM, wiring, sensors, injectors (about a $1000 just for them)and, a good intake drilled and plumbed for injectors. Then you need to fab up the intake tubes and the exhaust headers from high quality stainless, another $2000-$3000. Get a high quality intercooler, wastegate, blowoff valve (these depend upon your set up). Oh yeah the turbo...that will set you back about $3500 for a big boy. Before you even start building the engine you'll need to have at least $13000-$15000 to get the ball rolling for all the parts and fab work.
I could go on and on with parts list and dollar amounts. IMO there is no better power adder out there if you really want to go fast...just be prepared to spend some big $$$$

Ford & GM use Eaton superchargers...

November 8 2008, 4:36 PM

...on Corvettes & Mustangs. Ford Racing sells bolt-on Eaton kits & Eaton supercharged engine assemblies. Efficient and reasonably priced, no turbo hassles. Just wish someone would make a bolt-on for FE's.
