Anyone ever had any luck with a VIN number search website. and if so what is the link. My dad had a 57 chevy convertible back in the day and I want to find it for him. not that he can buy it back but i know he regrets selling that car and he would find it cool to know where it is. thanks
It has been my experince that most state DMV's have gone to 17 digit serial numbers and don't allow shorter diget searches. Maybe someone else can shed more light on it.
And it depends on the state. If you have to go back 20 years or more to pick up the trail, most states will tell you that they don't save records back that far.

That several of my first cars were unable to find 2nd owners! I drove most of my early cars straight into the ground! Next stop junk yard. But then I bought some from
the junk yard an fixed them up and drove them til they went back as well.
You can never regret having sold it if you don't! LOL 59 El camino here! Hawkrod

My DMV, SD, said they could check it out with a VIN but I never could comeup with one. Then, quite a while ago, I stumbled across it in a local junkyard. 63-1/2 Comet, dark blue with a fake vinyl top. One year I found out my wife and son were going to buy it for me for my birthday. It was in such rough shape that I told them to forget it. About 3 years ago I bought a different 63-1/2 Comet instead and have actually bought some parts from the junk yard from my old car so it is almost the same.
