the engine just came out of the Fairlane and its a 428CJ (relieve) it is not a matching numbers or date correct motor for the car though, and I wanted some opinions on what setup I should go for...

For street use...

1) what intake and head combination
2) exhaust headers...I was thinking FPA
3) should a change in cam be necessary

Thanks

What's the end goal? Are you looking to cruise, run the occasional stop light grand prix, or dominate the street? How much are you willing to put up with regarding noise, tuning, octane requirements, etc? Have any mods been done to the car? 4 Speed or Auto? What components do you have to work with? Get the head and intake casting numbers, carb id, etc.

I was thinking of running

Edelbrock Perfromer Rpm intake and heads, with FPa headers with comp cam xe262H with 350 gears

The cam is smallish

The RPM heads and intake, plus the FPA's would be a good choice with the 3.50 gears in a 3800lb fairlane (4sp or auto?, power brakes?). The xe262h would make great torque, but it will start to die off right when the heads and intake start to flow. I'm not sure if you'd loose torque with the xe274h, but you'd definitely gain power above 5k rpm. The 275DEH might be an in between choice.

The compression ratio might make the choice easy. If you drop below 9.5:1 with the aluminum heads, I might go with the smaller cam. If you have 10:1 +, then the bigger cam might be better. It's all about how much pressure get's bled off at lower RPM's. Going with a bigger cam, and lower compression might hurt the low RPM throttle response.

i'd go with 10:1 and the xe-274

and if you have a auto i'd put in at least a 2500 stall and around a 3.75 ratio my t-bird weighs 4100lbs and i've got a 390 with an xe-274 cam, 2800 stall, 3.82s. the cam won't be as wild in a 428 as it is in my 390 since you have more cubic inches, my power brakes work as long as i'm not in a parking lot...lol but i don't think you'll have a problem since you have a 428
