10:00, 11:00 and 1/2:00, as you're facing the front of the engine.
Is it an aftermarket balancer that has 3 sets of degree marks on it?
If not...
Just find a bolt on timing pointer that bolts on to the timing cover bolts on the passenger side of the engine.
You DO NOT have to pull the head to find TDC. You can use a degree wheel and a piston stop that threads into the spark plug hole...or you can mark the balancer and use just a spark plug piston stop.
Grab a piece of MSD timing tape that fits the balancer, find true TDC, and put the tape on.
BTW, what kind of "special" water pump did he put on? There are two water pumps available....one for a regular V-belt setup and one for a serpentine belt setup. The serp pumps will run backwards.
