I had read that isky made a shell lifter that uses a standard length pushrod..are they still available and is there a real advantage to using this lifter with a comp 282s cam in a 428?
Iski makes a good solid lifter, it is not a true shell, it is a hollow lifter. You can only call a shell lifter a SHELL lifter if it is TOTALLY hollow, with no top and it uses the 10.5+/- inch extra long push rod. Call DSC motor sports for those (link above, these are what i use.)
I think the isky is a far better lifter then the heavy dumb-bell style lifter which is also prone to braking on bigger cams.
Check and see which ones offer the EDM oiling, isky might, and that is nice, the oil goes into the lifter and lubes the solid cam face, nice for street.
