Steel Fuel Line

I want to run a 1/2" fuel line from the tank to carb in my Mustang but I don't want to run flex hose front to back.

I also don't want Aluminum.
I got a short piece of 304 stainless from work with .028 wall to see if my flare tool would work with it with no luck,it's too hard.

Does anybody know of a source for 1/2" tubing like the steel sticks they sell at the parts stores in 3/8,5/16,and 3/16"?

The parts counter guys checked there suppliers with no luck.

Maybe even a source for "softer" stainless?

Classic tube, www.classictube.com, advertises that they sell "annealed" stainless tubing, however I don't know about the 1/2" size.

Or do you have a brand name on the tubing?

McMaster has steel tubing in a wide variety of diameters and 6' lengths.

Check the weight of the fuel

that will be in a 1/2 line X 20ft ????can your pump push it forward during a 3G launch???There is a reason old S/S racers used 2 peices of 1/4 line from the tank !!!!

John I'm surprised you made that statement...... Had a customer in maintenance that went

November 4 2008, 5:09 PM

ballistic on a Purchasing Agent that got him two 2" Valves when he requested a single 4" valve because she could not get a 4".

Two 1/4" lines hardly could be considered to flow equal to a 1/2". Ive always wondered why folks don't run smaller sized lines and put the pressure to them. Sure a 1/4" line might not flow enough for a 500HP motor at 6-7PSI but at 15-20PSI???

Not likely that you'll need....

1/2 capacity. 2 X 1/4 will supply all you need.

could you do that?

November 5 2008, 12:28 PM

i've never thought about that but i think it should work if you adjusted your floats. as long as you adjust your floats could you run more pressure than 4-7psi

Heat up the end till it glows red then let it cool down. It should flare then. John
