There has not been much talk about the dove cammer kits. Just wondering if you guys that bought them are happy with what you got.

So far, I'd give mine a "C"

November 2 2008, 5:13 AM

I'm on the front end of getting it together, but have discovered a couple of problems. Despite the fact that the head castings appeared pretty good, one of them had a leak. And, the clearances in the roller wheel bearings on the rocker arms were too big. Plus, the rocker arm bodies are not relieved for cam clearance, so you can't run a very big cam unless you relieve the rockers.

I'll post more details as the engine comes together.

I would have to give my kit an F

November 3 2008, 11:30 AM

Jay, sounds like you got a good one. Both my heads leak, around some guides and through the castings. The front cover is not machined flat. 1/8 gape down the right side. Got the same problems with my rockers that you have. The machine work on the intake is bad. It could probably be fixed, but thats not the point. The adapter plate for the carbs is machined off center. They screwed up the bearing for the chain idler gear when they pressed it on. Yes, the back plate for the front cover is very amateurish. There was also a sealed freezer bag with rusty parts in it. How did that happen in shipping? The block. Now that is another story. It had stuff dropped on the deck that left some deep dents in it. It looked like it had been drug around the shop on the front, and the water holes in the deck are in the wrong places. I have taken it to two machine shops and they said they would not use it. They could probably make it work, but they would never trust it and always wonder about it. Thats the big stuff. You would think that when you spend 14.5k plus 792$ shipping on something it would be nearlly perfect. I guess I'm wrong.
I would have to give the customer service an F also. After trying to get ahold of Jim he finally called and left a message saying everything was perfect when it left the shop, and he did'nt know what to tell me. The thing is, I checked the box and the contents. Things looked in order and looked like it had not been miss handled in shipping. A couple of weeks later on of the employees called and wanted to send me a new block and a set of heads. I told him no way. I'm not going to trade junk for junk, I want my money back. At this point they tell me they do not give money back. They will fix or replace at thier discrection. There is no return policy on the invoice, website, or anywhere. That is were it is to this day.
I have been in the truck repair busness for 25 yrs, and I can say this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I know I should have known better. I believed Paul when he was telling everybody how nice things were, and that all the problems had been fixed, and that he would be involved.

I almost went for the $11,000 kit.................................

I really feel for you guys. For me it would of been a stretch. However, I have dreamed about this motor. At this point that is where it will stay. I figured Dove's stuff would be crap and it still is. It's really too bad. He could of been king. In a way he is. King of crap. Perhaps Bill's heads are better. Maybe someday someone will make these things correctly

C and F,That's terrible news. You'd imagine if you had decades old reputation of leaking

November 3 2008, 6:28 PM

castings and sloppy parts that you'd at least build one SOHC of what your offering as a test mule and then at least you'd drop the obvious screwed up parts potential and there's no excuse for not pressure testing/sealing the castings. The old Shit or get off the pot -- Why not contract out the casting machine work?

Don't think it was not a stretch for me. It was a stretch for me, but Paul swore up and down the stuff was as good as Edelbrock. All the problems have been solved. That is the reason why I bought into the deal. I wonder how much he made off of this deal?

Another statisfied customer.

Did you pay cash? Or did you use a credit card. With the later you have some leverage. Look on this bog. Dove posted a statement that all of his products were guarenteed forever.as Puchini said" I've had enough of Madam Butterfly and company." Hope this helps. Good luck.

Why would I want to trade one junk part for another junk part, and why would I want to fix a piece of junk. If you do, you still have junk. I paid to much f'ing money for this stuff to be jerked around like this. I had no idea that somebody could send shit like this out the door and still be in business!

Well from some I have talked too !!

November 4 2008, 8:55 AM

i use to talk too Paul quite often..Via email...and I think he got into something that he shouldnt have...the only good thing I have known that came out of JD's shop was a few Intakes and some of his rockers..

I do know a few people that bought cammer parts from Munro down under...and they were crap..But not as bad as JD's Kit...

And I know a guy right now thats building stuff with Bills parts and so far so good... I dont have any personal experience with them..Just from the guys I know that are trying to build a decent Cammer...and stand behind there builds.. JMO...

Sorry to hear you got burned....We should all be in this sport to support one another...and all some people see is a Buck !!
