Look up Modern Driveline

I forgot the owners name but he is helpful and knowledgeable. TKO 600 Tremeck with an FE style input shaft will bolt up to a stock bellhousing or any toploader scattershield and allow you to use your stock linkage. This combo would be the same lengthe as yout toploader so a swap to a C6 style yoke on the driveshaft should be all you'd need. I can't comment on shifter location vs stock in a Galaxie but I'm sure someone out there has done this swap. The biggest thing to pay attention to in these swaps is driveline angle so the trans mount to the crossmember will be the critical step to ensure you have a smooth vibration free driveline. Your rear gear will dictate your transmission choice but I'd buy the Road Race version with the .82 final drive. The Tremec already ahs a deeper first gear than a wide ratio toploader and the non road race .64 final drive drops the rpms so far that unless you are running a really deep rear gear you would probably be below your torque curve at 70 on the fwy. That's what I know from planning this swap for my Torino.

If the surf is flat I'll turn a wrench

Check out ....

Brent's listing in the classified section. He did well by me. We used a TKO 500 in my sons 67 Gal and the .64 o.d. worked well with 3:50 rear gear with 428-445hp/504ft.lbs. If your running considerably less torque than that you might want to go to something like a 3:89 rear gear or use the road race .82 version. The tko 500 first gear is a little low but the 600 is higher and as Goldylocks said should be just right. Mike

I'm doing this now

November 2 2008, 6:31 AM

I am in the process of replacing the toploader in my 64 Galaxie XL with a Tremec TKO500. My internet search found that some people did this with other versions of the Tremec with few problems. HOWEVER, I am going to have to cut the tunnel the full length of the trans to get it to fit. The tunnel will need to be raised an inch or so. Hopefully, the console will cover the mods. Also, I had to get the optional ($200) 2" offset shifter for it to fit in the console opening. I bought my Tremec from Brent with B2Motorsports and highly recommend him.
I will let you know how it goes.
