They are bringing out a dual quad FE intake. But the darn thing is a dual plane that will only accept the Edelbrock/Carter carbs due to spacing, and thus likely won't fit the oval air cleaner either. Talk about missing the boat....
just as a few steps above the worthless Offy version?
I do agree though.......they are getting into the "package" deal with alot of intakes, so why not FE? For the people that aren't concerned with originality or stock looking. Make it shiny and they will come.

my Starliner when I bought it in 1968. The "new" one is probably just a recast like most of the 2x4 intakes they are selling again. Holleys wouldn't fit on it so I traded it for a 3x2 factory setup.
Ron.
Wha dja expect - they sell the "carter" type carb.

No money in it for them to feed the crows. This way, they have pretty much locked up two sales instead of one, not to mention they get a bunch of guys hooked on non-Holley carb.
From a marketing point of view, its a no brainer. I guess the issue boils down to whether the vendor drives the market of the customer?
Its pretty obvious, at least to most FE fanatics, that nostalgia drives the FE market more than straight up, all out, B*lls to the wall performance (except for Jay, of course ) I guess they decided to test the waters by offering a "special" that will let them keep more of the money, give them a ROI for buying the molds for them obsolete Carter-carbbed dual manifolds .... call me a optimist, but I have to believe they have already designed and have supplies of the Holley type manifold locked up in a warehouse somewhere - just in case. One thing you have to admit about Edelbrock - they are ALL about business. If they can't get you coming in the front door, they'll switch gear and catch 'em going out the back.

I wish Edelbrock would produce thier current head with a modern 58cc combustion chamber. I think they would fill a much needed niche for 390 and smaller cube FE's. Jim
If you buy the intake you pretty much have to buy their carburetors and air cleaner. There is still a lot of Fe owners out there that have no idea that companies like Blue Thunder and Dove exist.
As luck would have it i'm headed for there in just a couple hours.
Vic and the guys are pretty good at listening to suggestions I think. They seem to have produced quite a bit of niche market stuff upon asking.
I'll get pictures if it's there and post them here next week.
I dont think so, Didn't Jay B try to the EDL 8V, but AVS carbs would not open

on the Dyno and he had to use coat hangers to wire them open to try to get a reading, and at that it was way down on power... so he said he may not even include them in his book...

The throttle body on the bottom of the carb opens all the way, then the top flap (air valve) only opens up enough to allow the needed air to pass. Forcing it open all the way would lean the mixture out. Quadrajets work the same way. They are a nice way of making a carb that is mechanical in nature, but operates like a vacuum secondary.
Those carbs are supposed to open all the way. But in order to vary the opening rate you have to alter the air valve counterweight to get full air at WOT.. Doing it that way is less expensive for the manufacturer than using the Holley style vaccuum cannister and spring configuration. A lot more work for the end user/owner.
