I pulled apart my 390 last week, and found the lifter valley pan was missing. What was their purpose in life, and how critical are they? Just curious. I have another laying around if needed.
Thanks,
Bruce

My experience...............

is if you got it use it. I have one but could not figure out how to modify it to work with my hyd roller lifters. I did not install thinking it probaly did'nt make a difference. I have since learned that there is alot of oil bouncing around off the lifters, pushrods. So much that it makes it impossible to run a rear PCV valve, even with the brillo pad screen it will suck oil. The other negative is the hot oil warming the bottom of the intake thus heating the intake runners. I will find a way to install it next time. While were on the subject of parts that sometimes don't get put back on think about the drainback tins that go under the valve springs. They definitly serve a purpose. I could not modify these to use with my Erson rockers either. I think Ford intended for most of the rocker oil to return to the valley via these.

Ahhh..that makes sense. I'll get another one to put back in there. Aren't the tins under the rockers also used as a sort of shim as well?

wow- really clean motor install... O/T questions

Nice engine compartment Craig. I love how clean your setup is. Are the shock towers custom or did you buy those somewhere? When i get to painting i need to replace mine anyway and the extra space would be really nice. Is the radiator hold-down a mustang item? how about the radiator? Come to think of it where are your shocks?

Thanks, Dan

Dan, the shock towers ................

are custom,I will take credit for the design, but they were built by my body shop. My goal was to make them look as stock as possible while at the same time giving me enough room to change plugs. If you noticed the top is stock, we came down maybe 3/4" and started cutting back as close as possible to the stock spring. Then went straight down to just above the top A arm then came right angle out. I had a metal shop bend a piece of 12" square 1/4" plate steel at a right angle 1 1/2" from one end. My body shop man made the roll at the top and fitted it, trimmed it, welded it in, mainly from the spring side, then grinded and filled till it looked factory.
I have since installed a Ron Morris coil over front suspension, thus no shocks poking thru. The radiator hold down is stock, I had it ceramic coated. The radiator is a Griffin aluminum that is made for the Mustang. Thanks for the compliments.
