Pulled the rockers off and put a Holley jet drilled out to 3/32 in the hole. Started the engine and the oil comes over the edge of the head pretty quick. Checked out drain holes seem to be fine. So is it normal for the oil to over flow or maybe i need a smaller restriter?? I don't know exactly how much oil hould be coming up. Thanks

Two things I would consider..

would be the clearance of the rocker arms on the shaft(leakage) and possibly running a thinner viscosity synthetic motor oil for faster drainage.

And I would also check

To make sure the rocker shaft holes are facing down. I had a size #60 holley carb jet in my heads and it worked pretty good. I cut the tops out of an old used set of valve covers and put them on to observe the flow so I wouldn't have a mess. JMO Warren

As stated above, rocker arm/ shaft clearances are critical in this area too.

Agree....

that a smaller i.d. restrictor may be required. I'd also ask just how old those valve seals are as well. If in good shape, limiting the oil flow may be the ticket. However, if they are old and cracked, especially the OEM Ford black rubber/viton type, you will still get oil smoke that will eventually get progressively worse.

Thanks, I'll try a smaller resricter. How do you check the rocker to shaft clearence? Don't know much about the engine since i bought the car used, It was supposed to have been rebuilt not to long ago. It does have solid lifters. Bob

Well, you need a decent set of digital dial Calipers to check

The inside diameter of Each removed rocker arm and then check the outside diameter of the rocker shaft. The difference between the two would be your clearance. I am not sure what is allowed for clearance at the moment without looking it up.Someone may chime in with this info. Don't check just a few, checkem all. This way you will know. If rocker shaft looks worn as well as rocker bushings, might think about replacing both. Also when checking your valve seals, check them all and see if any of them are riding up with the valve and not staying down on the valve guide boss. If they are riding up this will allow oil to get into guides and cylinder thus burning.

JMO Warren.

Don't just look at the drain holes

probe with a piece if wire. Old pieces of seal will jam in there nicely and mat not be seen. A pick and a shop vac work wonders.
