Thanks for all the awesome comments guys! To answer some questions the wagon in the picture is the car I drive which has gone an 8.64. In the picture posted on our website I'm the one with the crazy hair on the left. When we took the picture my fire suit was at the cleaners so I borrowed Fred's. As for the changes in the engine they really seemed to work. Usually Rich decides what goes into the engines we build and a few changes are usually made per my suggestions, but on this one he let me go. I've been building engines with him for four years now and have learned a lot. I convinced him to let me build the engine to my specs to challenge myself and my own theories. I spent a lot of time (hours and hours) solving differential equations and various formulas. I won't tell specifications on what I have changed but I will tell what hasn't changed - Bore, stroke, cam, cam timing, head ports, head location, intake manifold, carbs, rockers, lifters, and springs(new of coarse). I love building engines and over the past year I have become very influential in the builds we do. I saw that someone mentioned the 40's. I know that it is possible but I don't believe it can be done with the same cam. The graphs I came up with seem to indicate that a different cam would likely produce more power. Now all I need to do is convince my car owner to put up some more money....
Anyway, if I haven't answered a question you may have feel free to ask. Thanks for all the support.

For young fellow to accomplish what you have so far is really an inspiration. Congratulations on your first solo, Hope Mr LaMont isn't too jealous.

Keep on chokin' them til they puke!

What is the car's weight? What tire & gear? First gear ratio?

even more questions

October 29 2008, 9:53 AM

What heads? They don't look like the High Risers i'd expected.
Does it still use a stock steering box and the regular Comet suspension?

It also looks like that manifold leaves room for a regular low profile distributor.
Here's what mine looks like...

Equations.

You wouldn't be kind enough to tell us which differential equations you used? Sure would be of help to the rest of us struggling FE people. Good looking engine. Thanks. Bart

Very cool...

I didn't realize you could run a sheet metal intake in A/FX. Whos intake is it? Strong running FE no doubt!!!

No disrespect but...

It seems that 422 makes their own class / rules for racing. No doubt they are fast but they are not in the same boat as some of the forum members who are using iron heads or aftermarket approved heads with small valves and 1 4150 carb of small size.

Its about time someone did something new with this old stuff

October 29 2008, 5:06 PM

that hasn't been done. JK. I have been wondering though when we might get a 2 piece dry intake available (you know like on a Cleveland, or a B/RB Mopar?) to make running a solid roller cam a little easier to service.

422 seems to drawing some good competition and going pretty darn fast, it looks like an FE. I like it.
