O/T Wheel balancing

I know this is off topic, but you guys know all the answers. I bought an old Ammco spin balancer. I have searched the internet to find out where to buy weights for the steel wheels on the 70 Mach 1, but the sites are catered to garages who buy in bulk. I just wanted a small assortment of sizes to balance steel wheels of the sixties and seventies. Anyone have a place where I can buy a small selection of weights on line?
Thanks
JWR

Weights

Try some of your local tire stores and see if they would sell you a selection of different ounce weights. You really don't need new ones and I'm sure that they have a large collection of used ones and would be happy to pocket a few bucks.

I buy used wheelweights....

by the 5-gallon bucket for casting both bullets and dive weights. I can always find the sizes I'm looking for, for wheel balancing.

Lead weights .... Thats gonna change - PDQ

October 29 2008, 12:26 PM

EPA is starting a new crusade. This time they are going after lead weights (tire balance), I guess they already have gotten the lead out of many shot gun shells, premature ruin of a good gun barrel when using steel shot - I think it was to prevent fish from getting too much lead from duck, bird hunters shooting over lakes.

The idea is disposal of used lead weights is unregulated and the way they are thinking now - any lead in the unregulated enviroment is too much. I haven't heard of what is supposed to replace lead weights, but when it somes to Government, planning is what you do - after you spend the money.

So, no more lead weights used to balance tires.

Isn't that the truth on shotgun barrels

That steel shot has no lubrication. And what heat is there will cook off anything you put on it. Cleaning is about like doing a black powder rifle, every time you go out you had better clean and oil it.

I hate steel shot. It also cuts through like mil-copper ball instead of flattening out like lead. The blunt force trauma that would have dropped a bird instantly with lead will have your dog working their ass off and still likely finding a flapping bird. I think its inhumane. I can't see to hunt anymore but dove hunting, when I still could, lost a lot of my interest when steel shot was mandated. You would say, how did I miss them? Then they would start dropping, way off salient. The dog would look at you like, ..."you are kidding right?"

Hobby Shop...

for the stick-on style. Probably less than 1/3 the price than a tire shop, come in 1/4 ounce segments. This the route I take for balancing my own motorcycle tires.

For individual clamp-on style, I know the Napa and Checker near me have them, but I have noticed some others do not. At least worth checking a couple different stores if possible.
