My favorite place

October 24 2008, 1:41 PM

is at 83rd Ave and Lake Pleasant Pkwy in the Safeway parking lot. It's 1.5 miles north of Union Hills. But then I live on the west side, so I'm just going to the closest cruise-in. Great showing every Saturday night. It's been quite a few years since I've seen the one in Scottsdale.

Here is a link to all the local cruise-in's for Phoenix and it's suburbs.

I lived in Phoenix while working a few years back and the Pavilions show was great!
The longest running continuous car show anywhere I heard...

The ratio of...

...rice rockets to street rods is probably gonna be a bit higher at Pavillions than out on 83'd but both can be good places to go. There should be some cool stuff at both locations. They are on opposite sides of the valley from eachother so you brobably want to mapquest them realtive to where you are staying.

If you don't know the valley be sure you do not confuse 83rd AVENUE for 83rd STREET - there are MANY miles between them. Pavillions is way east - and the 83rd Ave location is way out on the north/west corner of town...

Happy hunting...

both?

October 24 2008, 11:23 PM

Looking at Google Earth it must be the parking lot of a big store where 83rd bends into Lake Pleasant Parkway?
It also looks like Scottsdale is an easy 20 mile drive east on the 101... considering Gord's already driven 2000 miles i'd think he could see both in an evening... or is Phoenix like LA where 20 miles is a three hour trip?

Both...

...is possible. Not sure if I'd want to get back in the car though. If mapquest says it's 20 miles then I guess that is what it is - I would have gauged it at more like 30...

It's probably only 20 miles away (from Snottsdale)

October 26 2008, 1:13 AM

It only SEEMS like 30 or so due to the frigging stop and go weekday traffic snarl. After my (actual) 30 mile drive home every day, when I was working dayshift, I wanted to curl up into the fetal position for a couple of hours to recuperate from the traffic trauma!
