Hey all,
Do you guys know if there is a difference between the Holman and Moody aluminum dual quad marine intakes and the HM automotive intakes? I am going to look at a 427, med-riser, dual 4-barrel intake tomorrow. The circular plenums are still in it and supposedly it is in nice shape.
It came off the guys boat.
Any difference from the car ones?
Thans for your help and time,

The HM Marine will NOT have machined in 2 spots. First is the Bypass fitting to the Water Pump, no brass nipple or thread. Second spot is for temperature sender, not drilled or threaded. These are easy, just drill and tap.
it came off a boat, does not mean it was a marine intake...like Doug says, look at machining, and casting number...H&M did not cast two different intakes, just machined differently ( actually casted/machined by DST or Buddy Bar along with all others)NOTE: A real marine intake will not have an exhaust crossover...
thanks for the heads up. i will look at the machined or not machined areas. good point John, maybe it's not a marine one at all. the guy seemed to think so though. but i'd bet that just because it was on his boat he probably assumes that it is a marine unit.
if i buy it, i'll try to post some pics.
thanks again,

Were all the HM Marine 8v intakes Med Riser or Lo Riser or both?

I've heard there was a 427/300hp marine (iron 4v), then a 427/400hp marine (HM 8v, dual Carters) then a 427/500hp marine (HM 8v, dual Holleys)
Of course beyond these published/advertised versions I'm sure there are any number of special builds. But on the official ones, the 427/400 and 427/500:
Were both of the 8v versions medium risers or did it vary by year?
I hadn't heard of the 400 or 500 hp ones but i've seen pictures of one a guy has that is a 427/600hp HM Marine engine with a unique water jacketed 6-71 blower.
Maybe Dennis has pages of literature on these too? (hint)
in the 70's/ early 80's, old V-drives with full H-M setups. One was a 2x4 Holley MR, and the guy who had it knew what he was doing, was the fastest boat on Lake Berryessa for a long time- nobody would screw with him. He used to spank chrome queen pickle forks with 454 Chebbies right and left with that thing. Brown boat with lettering, and the guy was a little large, filled up the seat pretty good. The other belonged to a spoiled doctor's kid, MR with Webers- I still have the manifold, after he blew up both the boat and the Pantera that daddy bought him, daddy cut him off, so we put together a 390 for him and traded for the good parts- I got the complete Weber setup for a 20/30 454 Chebbie crank that the machinest needed LOL. Cantrell gave me the crank, so he got the Webers for his GT40, and I got the manifold.
hey guys,
i am gonna post some photos of the HM intake i picked up yesterday. the hole to the water pump nipple is threaded. it looks like it has never had a piece in it but it is threaded. it's a really nice intake with the rear breather and two Offy risers.
does it look like a marine or an auto intake?
Thanks for all your help,
Steve Bava
