The two 1967 Shelbys that I have owned did not have any kind of smog system. They have a flapper valve on the passenger side at the end of the exhaust manifold for warm up. You have a heat riser tube from the exhaust to the carburetor for the choke. I would look at some pictures of some orignal cars to find out what all you neeed. I have some pictures of my 1967 Shelby GT-500 on our website. Thanks, Keith
Part GT390 and part nothing else. Very few cars had it and very few pictures exist that I can find. I would love for somebody to take detailed pictures to put on my web page. Hawkrod

There was an unrestored '67 GT500 at the Santa Monica Shelby / All Ford show last year that had all the original smog in place. Second set I have ever seen.
Even cooler than that was Herbie Hancock (yup, that Herbie Hancock) bringing his unrestored '62 Cobra to the show. He bought it new, it is utterly original and unrestored.

I have a shot of the engine compartment of a GT500 that my friend bought new. It was an early 67 model. The polution control on the 67 GT500 was PVC and a smog pump therefore it had a bracket for the alt that positioned it down low. Mine was a GT500 built for California. Late model 03217.

here is my friend Jeff's GT500. It won gold at Shelby Nationals one year.
Thanks. I appreciate the information. It is interesting because that is how I also remember it. What got me looking into it was the 5th digit in my vin is a #2 (thermactor exhaust system)
They are rare and finding correct info about them is impossible. Most people will tell you it never came with it but the serial number confirms that it did and you won't see many others like it. Hawkrod

I don't remember any on my GT500. It had a sticker in the corner of the windshield stating that it was exempt by C.A.R.B. (California Air Resources Board)
In the early smog test days, you could get an exemption sticker for ram-air or a dual point- you could get many a '66 Mustang exempted by dropping in the same Hypo dual point and changing the fender emblems to "289 Hi-Performance"- at least that's what I heard- I would never do such a thing LOL. They weren't watching VIN's very carefully in those days. The stock '69 Boss 302 out back still has it's "EXEMPT" sticker in the windshield
The CA exempt sticker was for the NOX device only . You still were requierd to have all the factory smog components installed on the car. The exemptions were for Ram air , duel points ,factory multi carbs or no factory installed vacume advance.

Interesting. By any chance do you still know what the fifth digit of your shelby vin number was. Mine is a 2 for Thermactor exhaust system, but I am wondering if in end they got them exempt and took them off car before being shipped
It seems to make sense to me. My car says it should have smog, but it appears Shelby got an exemption so the smog was taken off at the Shelby facility.
