Found 2 427 S.O. blocks with no casting #'s on pad behind alt.or VIN stamps. Just date codes one with a W1 over a K2 with ribs on the outside. The other has a W over a F29, not sure on the 9, No ribs on this block. What year do you think these are and by chance what do you think these came out of? Nothing else to go on. Thanks

yes there is the typical DIF and the 427 on the rear but these are the #'s cast around the oil filter. both were full longblocks medium riser one at 11:1 and the other at 12:1 with factory pistons. One block has no ribs.

Ribs are 1971-later.

THe block was cast between 1971 and 1974.

What markings are on the rear face of the block, and what is the date code near the oil filter pad?

The numbers you show are likely mold ID numbers (F29 and K2) and casting conveyor numbers (W and W1), both helping to trace the origins of a defective casting in the foundry, but that is just a guess based on no solid info.

Shoe.

I believe DIF would have one mold line dedicated for the FEs. At MCC we.........

.....had Mold Line #1 for blocks, Mold-Line #2 were for heads. The last line, #5, was crankshafts but was later converted to do the 6-cylinder blocks. The #1 line was later converted for the Erika engine blocks, 1.6/1.9 Escort blocks, Rod.
