Y-Block to FE

I have a line on a Y-Block 4x4 truck that I would eventually want to put an FE in. What is the compatibility between Y-Block and FE engine mounts and bellhousings?

not hard

you need to find a bell housing with the two mounting tabs on the rear of it, as the FT engines had. This will bolt right in to the mounting holes your Y block uses on it's bellhousing. Also, you need the front FT engine mount, with its cast iron timing cover. Bulletproof connection. I just welded the mount to the front frame when i did my 1962 f100 years ago to the 390. Headers fit no problem. No regular motor mounts needed. Not a hard swap. Just need to find the right FT pieces.

Engine swap

The Bells are different. It depends on what year you are installing the FE into what you have to change. I put a 390 in my 57F600. I had to change bells and use a front mount from a F500 with a FE. Let us know what your putting it in and we can give you more info.

Have A Good Day--- John

Don't be so quick to abandon the Y-block

They are good engines, especially with modern day oil that prevents some of the issues they were notorious for. And they make real good power. They just need to breathe. They look good too.

I hear you, but....

I have a pile of near worthless FE parts and two running FE cars already--it's more practical to stick with a powerplant that is interchangable with my other junk so that I can keep them all going to a budget.

In reality, I should just bank the money with all of the finantial meltdowns, but this truck is cool and DIRT cheap--I can't believe how low this guy has dropped the price.

Y-blocks have a way of falling in love with you. Or vice versa.
