Clearance alone does not sound like the cause. When doing driveline design, find the find text published by bearing manufactures invaluable. I've got reams of design manuals from Federal Mogul, Clevite and SAE. If interested, can arrange copies.
Has anyone actually calculated the PV values? May be a material compatibility error. There are dozens of bronze alloys to choose from. What about orientation of the oil hole? What about oil feed grooves? If not correct, a hydrodynamic film will not exist at the load point.
Have found PVD coated shafts a huge benefit. May want to consider DLC coatings. Check out the Wikipedia info. I've had good success with questionable PV values. Also discussed material processing with a Japanese vendor at PRI. Displayed parts processed by micro level peening that had much improved load caring capacity. |
