Response to Re: Are you saying that on a 427............. |
| I do to the pass. block oiling system what was done to the 427 and truck FT engines. I match the oil holes at the mains, enlarge the pump to filter passage to 7/16", enlarge the passage from the filter adapter to the main gallery to 7/16" if the block was orig. drilled 3/8". Limit oil to the heads and massage the head drain holes. I would use the FT main bearings if they were available [solid lower main bearing] or use the 351C mains [tangs need to be removed] High capacity pan with 5/8" pick up and a high volume pump with no more than 60-65 lbs of pressure. Don't forget a quality pump drive. The main journal to bearing mismatch was done to force more oil to the hyd. lifters and IMO should be matched to the bearing for high rpm use. The FT and 427 engines have a full opening at the main bearings so Ford must have thought enough about it to change from the passenger car engine. The FT truck engine was designed to operate at governed speed of 42-4500 rpm for hundreds of thousands of miles, again the engineers must have thought it nessessary. Passenger car engines were designed to operate at 2200-2800 rpm so maximum oil flow is not needed for typical light duty grocery-getting service.
