Don`t forget that the earlier exhaust manifolds used a flat flange and a gasket where the front exhaust pipes connect to the ex. manifold, the later manifolds had chamfered flanges, and were meant to be used with a "donut" seal, rather than a flat gasket. I don`t know how common the problem is, but the drivers side exh. manifold on my all original 59 2 dr sedan`s 332 doesn`t have any broken ears, but the front edge where the manifold is supposed to seal against the cyl.head is erroded away and leaking.
