Response to Autolite Dual Point Set-up Question

If the dist. is in your opinion, in good/new condition, I feel it is best to take the dist. to someone that has a dist. tester. That is, a machine that has an oscilliscope, along with a vacuum pump, tach, etc. Not only will the technician set the point gap, and then adjust dwell from that point, he will be able to set the mechanical advance spring tension, check for lobe wear, check vacuum advance operation[if equipped], check for bent shaft [ wobble], worn shaft bushings/bearings, etc. If you install the dist. correctly, these steps taken will help you to reduce the guess-work upon initial start-up! I hope this helps you out! Dean
