Basically, I did a similar engine build as the "Poor Man's 427" project as Wes did! This engine got pulled from a boat about 15 years ago, because of a blown head gasket, which unknown to me, had caused a hydrostatic lock in #5 cylinder, and severely bent the rod!. It was bought very cheap, and sold to a friend who wanted to do a Cobra project. He never got around to it, so last year I bought it back for what I sold it for, 15 years ago!
I wound up sleeving all 8 cyls, and of course had it decked, squared, magged, the usual steps done when taking on a project this size. It's got std. bore 11.6:1 comp. pistons, plasma rings, std. rods and mains. The only parts that were "trick," were the heads [c7ae-a], 428 w/o A.I.R. that I spent personally 50 hours doing the porting and polishing on while the engine was in "repair." I port matched the intake gasket to the intake ports and the intake as well. They weren't flowed, but I tried to make them as close to the same as possible for a "novice." The intake has no Part #'s or production date, but has the FOMOCO logo on the driver"s side. It is aluminum, and was cleaned, and sprayed with a high temp "Chrome Metalflake" show paint[couldn't find a polished or chromed intake,] and then high temp clearcoated, for the shows! It's got an 800 d.p. carburetor, and a Holman-Moody "LeMans Grind" cam and lifters, and lots of chrome or polished aluminum accessories.
I also changed out to a centerforce clutch/pressure plate set-up, [hydraulic] and a freshly rebuilt big in/big output top loader transmission, complete with the correct shifter box and handle. This is a WHOLE LOT BETTER than the small 351-c and T-5 that was in it originally! You can believe that!
