Throwing parts at things is just as, or more, expensive than getting a good diagnosis and getting what you need.

One thing about Ford electronics, they are usually better than the aftermarket stuff. I have some Duraspark pickups from the late '70s that are still good. And on a Snap-on scanner it will tell you right in the trouble tree a bunch of things to test and that the Ford EEC is nearly indestructible, where a GM it will tell you do a scratch test first because it is likely the computer.
