I think it is standard operating procedure to loosen the mounts and rotate the engine a little bit to gain access to the rear plugs.
It's been a good van for our purposes but I sure wish it was fixable, maybe a five cylinder diesel and a rugged five speed manual. Then I wouldn't need to buy a car for about a million miles.
I think Royce said the Mustang FE needs the master cylinder removed to get at the back plugs, I have not tryed that yet
