In 1979, I went to the NHRA Fallnationals in Seattle Washington, and Don Bowles had a brand new Gapp&Roush built 79 Fairmont racing in A/SM. Not only did he win Modified Production, he also won either best engineered or best appearing car at the same race. I`ve had a lot of people ask me if my decision to build a Fairmont a few years later was based on Bob Gliddens killer Pro Stock Fairmonts, but no, it was Bowles car that "set the hook" for me. Bowles car, like mine, was a back half car, much more stock looking that a P/S car, even back then. By the way, Glidden was running in Pro Stock at this same race, but unfortunately, it was in his 1 year only Plymouth Arrow!
