As with any new carb, you should take them apart and make sure everything is clean and in order. BGs are fine, but they've had their problems. I prefer Holleys, even though BGs are basically the same. You can pick up a good used Holley and for about half the price have a great carb after a rebuild. They are quite easy to rebuild and tune, so that's what I'd do.
