I transport a lot of new cars [dealer trades] The first Lexus RX400H I drove did the same thing. It just feels spooky driving them on and off the trailer with out the engine running. At times when your driving them up the ramps the engine will start which startles you a little bit. Now before I move the car, I pump the gas petal a few times to make the engine start. It just feel more normal loading them with the engine running. Also they don't roll like you would expect when you just let off the brake.
I also learned [the hard way] that if the regular size 12V battery is dead, they will not move at all. You have to jump start them just like we always have. Recently I went to Atlanta to pick up a Lexus LS600LH with a window sticker of 116k. Its not about being cost effective, It's all about being "green" to many of these people.
