Response to Anyone ever try the Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam?

We put Edelbrock RPM heads, RPM cam, and Performer RPM intake on a 428 short block that went in my 64 Galaxie. It did not run well and had no torque. We later discovered several problems. The Ed RPM cam calls for an Edelbrock timing gear - it seems that when a stock timing set is installed straight up, the cam timing is actually retarded. We later found ours was 6* retarded. The heavy Galaxie has a 3.00 rear end and the RPM may be too much cam. We are presently changing out the toploader to a Tremec TKO500 (more unforeseen headaches) and will see how the better gear ratios help performance. Before we are through I expect we will wind up changing to a 260-270 Comp cam.
