The top photo is of a WAR case and the bottom photo is of a C2 nodular "non N" case. Look at the second rib from the top which is the one just above the pinion support hole. At the ends of the rib on the C2 case there is a wide area on both sides that provides extra support. The WAR case doesn't have this. There are other differences but IMO this is the easiest to recognize. Hope this helps!
