I remember one spring manufacturer recommending that springs be de-burred on the ends by using a wire wheel before instalation. I think it was Iskendarian. CV Products offers some chamfering cones for use on springs. I've had one titanium reatiner that had a gouge in the interior of the retainer caused by the spring. I was able to buy two retainers from Crane to replace the damaged one. Hope this helps.
