If you had the rods backwards, then the crank would be nearly impossible to turn over after you torqued a couple of them. Also, spirolocs have a flat side and a beveled/rounded side. They should always be installed with the flat side against the pin/piston. That means that the bevelled sides are touching each other when installed correctly. Joe-JDC.
