Response to bleed-off hole photo

Well folks, the oil bleed-off hole behind the oil filter adaptor is NOT the answer to my lower than expected oil pressure! My block is a top oiler 427[c3ae-b], that has the sideoiler bosses on the back of the block- but they never got drilled from the factory. It has 66-427 cast into the back of the block, and a production date of 5K21 [NOV 21, 1965]. My oil clearances for the rods and mains are mid-way of the desired specs. Not tight- but not loose by any means! I installed a melling high volume oil pump, expecting at least to get the normal 35-65 psi. I have 50 cold start-up and it falls rapidly as the engine warms up! I have 20-25 psi at 2500 rpm on the road, and 10-15 psi at hot idle! [20-50 wt oil] Is this o.k. or should I opt for a high pressure/high volume pump? I used to run that kind of pump years ago when I did a lot of drag racing! I never used one one the street before! Any ideas out there? Thanks, Dean
