Response to O/T Multi-Disc Clutches

I just was talking with my 5 speed transmission provider on this yesterday. We are figuring about 850 horse and 800 ft lbs torque on the engine I'm building. He suggested going with a single ceramic clutch since I am primarily street use. It is rated to 900 ft lbs.

He said in his experience if a single clutch disc can be used and the car is primarily street driven it will be an easier car to drive. Also the clutch disc in his case will be the weak link and cost about 120.00. Rather burn a clutch than break a transmission.

I have never used a multi disc set up so I can't give any personal experience with that.
