maybe this is what you were trying to tell me---the spring loaded detent which i guess serves to make it an effort to get in to reverse to avoid accidental shift into reverse---well it does stict out of the housing when pushed on---took shifter off tranny and sure enough i can see where it is hitting the adapter plate--little grinding will fix it right up---thanks for all the input
