This morning we ran by Starbucks and headed for the marina. Janet dropped me off to wash the boat, and then she drove to a nearby BBQ house and got a couple of take outs for lunch. We finished up the boat and off we went. It was a spectacular day on the water, not a cloud in the sky, and mild weather. Just spectacular.
Since I’m running an inch of pitch too much on a pair of 4-blade props, the result is an awesome cruising setup between 2500 and 2900 RPM, the latter being the mark where the 427 marine engine develops it’s massive maximum torque of 438 footpounds. The boat planes beautifully at 2500 rpm, and it will run for hours on end at that speed without so much as a complaint.
One of the young kids at our marina saw us depart the harbor and he knew the old Chris would curl one heck of a wake. We didn’t disappoint him when we saw he was trailing is in his PWC. At 2500 RPM, the boat is just up on a plane and it is making a monster of a wake.
Here we are making our way down river, enjoying the sounds of a pair of 427 Fords purring away at a very easy pace. Even though hours like this do show up on the hour meter, if you're using good oil like we do (presently Mobil-1 15W50 synthetic) and running at a moderate pace like this, those hours are essentially a "no wear" situation.
At this point we're getting close to Alan Jackson's riverfront fish camp, complete with docks for his 70' Berger, and of course it has a nice grass air strip that aims out over the river too ! See next posting for more photos..................

Paul
