Hi all, We have just returned from our latest adventure with "Seaspray" 31'. What a trip, where do I begin? The total distance we covered was 114.37 miles, the first photo is from the chart plotter showing total trip loop, the first leg was from Jersey to Guernsey 31.63 miles on 14th July. The trip over was scarey to say the least, we left Jersey in a force 3 to 4 which increased to a 4 to 5 around Noirmont point (2nd and 3rd photos)and Corbiere, the swell was approx. 5 to 6 foot and the boat was jumping and slamin', on a few occasions the prop's were air born. On arrival in Guernsey we opened the door to the cabin not knowing what we would find. The front cabin and our bedding was soaked as water had come in through the front hatch and the front window! this has never happened before but I don't think we have been in such rough seas. No time to take photos in Guernsey as we had to hire a rug doctor and wash the bedding, also the screws came out of the mast fixings and we nearly lost it, duck tap is great stuff.
16th July - Next leg Guernsey across to dielette - 32.76 miles, We have never been to this marina but friends had said it was nice. The trip across could not have been better, calm seas and only one other big boat to dodge.
The enterence to Dielette was a little hard due to the surf, to dangerous to take a photo but I have attached a postcard instead and a photo of us in the Marina (look for the arrows), I hope you can find us and one of Paul and me ashore.
18th July - Next leg - Dielette to Carteret - 20.74 miles. I do have a short video of us leaving Dielette going through the surf but could not up load it! any how the trip was going great until we where about 3 and a half miles of of Carteret and the s/b engine started bleeping and the temp. gauge was in the top half of the red and it was over heating. We switched it off and plodded on with one engine at about 7/9 knots, we thought it could have been a loose fan belt but it was to rough to check, I have attached a chart shot of the approach, as you can see Paul did very well on one engine.
Once we had settled in, Paul investigated and found that one of the rubber fresh water coolant hoses had split and that there was anti freeze and water all around the engine! Paul cut out the split and re-joined it will 2 clips and we went ashore to enjoy some peace and rest.
20th July - 10am - Next leg - Carteret to Jersey - 29.24 miles
Quick get the boat ship shape, wind has picked up 3 to 4 and weather reports are predicting 5 to 6's. We arrived in Jersey after a little lumpy ride but nothing to bad, front cabin is nice and dry, thanks to duck tape, mast is still on the roof, side windows nearly stayed closed (once again thanks to duck tape), now sitting chilling in our home marina.
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE BOATING.
THE SAGA CONTINUES.
LOVE AS ALWAYS
