Here is one of forty-three 55’ Commander Flush Deck Motor Yacht’s built during the 8-year time frame from 1970- 1977. This boat is a 1970 model, it is located in Patchogue, New York, and it is presently for sale ($135,000). Patchogue, by the way, is on the Eastern coastline of Long Island, New York.
In 1970 the 55’ Flush Deck Motor Yacht was the largest (fiberglass) yacht in the Chris Craft lineup. This boat shares a unique feature with the original 38’ Commander of 1964, in that it has the same sort of 3-piece hull design. The bottom is one piece, and the port and starboard sides are bonded together to complete the hull, just like the 38. Most of the 55 Flush Deck yachts are powered with 425-hp 8V-71 (turbocharged) diesels, which produce speeds of 15 knots cruising and 18 knots at full throttle. Cruising range is around 200 miles. The boats were offered with 8V-71 normally aspirated diesels too. (Not sure which motor Peggy’s boat has at this time).
The boat has a 16’-5” beam, weighs in at 51,783 pounds, and has 150 gal water and 570 gal fuel tankage.
By comparison, the 1972-1973 55’ Chris Craft Roamer Flush Deck has a 16’ beam and weighs in at 54,500 pounds, with 300 gal water and 600 gal fuel tankage.
