Original pencil marks on your Commander !!

I have noticed on several Chris Craft models I’ve worked on from 1939 to our present day 1966 38 Commander, that there are some very interesting pencil marks on the wood pieces. I believe it was commonplace to mark notes to identify which boat the piece was intended for, and even to autograph some of the pieces.

On my FXA 38 3004R, right beside the brass plaque with imbossed serial numbers, is a “3004” scrawled out on the bulkhead piece in pencil. Along with it is the name “David” clearly autographed. The last name is obscured by the plaque, but I will remove it to see what it says. I am wondering if Serge, from France, has the same autograph on his boat, because then were about 20 units apart and built during the same year (1966). Perhaps this mystery will have an interesting conclusion? It’s quite possible that David “somebody” is still alive! Let’s hope so.

Here is a photo documentary of my plaque, and you can see a bit of the pencil marks behind it.

regards, Paul
