Sherwood 427 sea water pump (PHOTO documentation)

The 427 sea water pump is a pretty simple device. The hard part about doing an impeller replacement is actually finding the pump way down there on the bottom front of the motor!

Here is a pair of them, one with the drive pulley, the other without. These pumps are about twice the size of the 4-port Sherwood we documented a couple days ago.

Industrial grade all the way, from Motor City USA. Pop off the 4 screws on the front cover, pull off the cover without destroying the gasket, and you might be able to reuse the gasket. That gives access to the impeller, which hopefully will slide off the keyway easily.

Pump identification numbers are cast into the bottom front where they are totally impossible to see without pulling the pump off, or perhaps using a mirror. Good luck if you're trying to use a mirror, lol. That's the cold weather winterization drain down plug in the photo, on the bottom side of the pump. Forget to remove that in the winter, and you can buy a new pump in the spring!

The impellers on these pumps are big and deep. They need a bit of soapy suds to lube them for the twist and insert. The trick is, to get the twist started half way into the pump housing, and then find the keyway.

Remainder of the photos are in the next post, so as to not load up each page.
