First, that is not a tail shaft number. Tail shaft numbers have -7060- as part of the number, not -7A040-. And I have never seen a Ford tail shaft with a number on them out of over a hundred thousand transmissions that I have owned.
Second, the number given does not look correct to me. "Y" in the fourth position usually indicates Lincoln, but that is in stark contrast contradictory to "Z" in the third for Mustang. Only thing I can tell for sure about the number is that it is 1978 or later and is on a foreign built part, not U.S. built.
Based on that, I would look to Europe for your answer. Ford may have used "Z" and "Y" together there with a different meaning than in the U.S. |
