In my previous post I think I mentioned that I bought my car (59 tbird) and the engine had already been "done". It wasn't original but we figured out it was an early 430 59/60. We are finding out that the bottom half was done, 4 cylinders sleeved, crank ground, new pistons, etc. Question 1- I have the "non-wedged" pistons (pardon my ignorance). What is the effect on drivability or type of gas I have to use?

You most likely have service replacement pistons that most rebuilder suppliers sell. They are modified BUICK pistons and do not have the unique MEL piston crown design which makes this engine so unique.

Simply put, they compromise the actual combustion chamber design of the engine. Exact stock replacements are no longer available unless expensive forged.

There are several posts on this site about this.
