Yes, the engine was further developed, but not for "sporty" models. So even the 1600 version had only 90 hp.
Unfortunately I don't know much about the head and cam of that engine.
Supposedly, the hottest stock cam is the euro 1500 carb cam.
Other development work was/is done on race motors only.
After the X1/9 era, the Uno Turbo was the sporty Fiat model, and hot street motor development by tuners was concentrated on that. Novitec, for instance, offered a 1600 version of the Turbo with 200 hp.
